Cognos/BI Developer/Administrator


 


The Cognos Developer/Administrator must have experience installing, configuring, developing and designing with the Cognos tools in a Data warehouse environment.



  • Development and administration of Cognos 7 and Cognos 8 Products

  • Experience with Impromptu Web Reports

  • Development of ad hoc queries

  • Web-based Deployment of web reports.

  • Validating and modeling the data warehouse feeds into the reporting tools (PowerPlay and Impromptu).

  • Creating, managing and administering all query libraries, catalog libraries, Impromptu reports and OLAP cubes.

  • Conducting data investigations and assisting the business partners with complex data analysis and ad-hoc queries.

  • Monitoring queries and report behavior to assure performance expectations are met.

  • Must have knowledge of Report Studio, Query Studio, Framework Manager and Access Manager.

  • Experience in Cognos upgrade (Cognos 7 to Cognos 8)


 


 


At least Seven (7) years of work experience with Cognos BI Tools Series (Cognos 7.x and Cognos 8.x) is required because the Business Intelligence Environment consists of Cognos series 7 and Cognos 8.  .


 


Three (3) years experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is required because the entire reporting methodology is based on understanding the relational database systems.  


 


Knowledge and use of Impromptu and Report Studio reports development software is required because these are the development reporting tools used by the business intelligence group.


 


Architectural understanding of Cognos distributed environment on a Microsoft platform is required.  


 


Ability to understand data warehousing/ODS/DSS data models is required because the entire reporting methodology is based on understanding the data modeling and transactional data process.  Without this knowledge,


 


Use of version control software, such as ClearCase or VSS is required because version control of all of the Cognos Applications is handled in ClearCase.
